Mailboxes maybe nothing more than the green rectangular boxes, the silvery pigeon holes, or the old style red cylindrical ones to me who have lived in the city for most of my life.

Oh yes, I wouldn’t have forgotten this.

You might also have something like this if you happen to live in a tong lau or have purchased T-shirts from FONCEPT. (Remember our packaging?)

And yet, mailboxes to some people are a craft and a display of their creativity.

At this point I can’t help envying those who own a real funky mailbox.

Gaining inspiration from Radiohead’s song-Paranoid Android,
yeung designed I may be paranoid which just won in the latest Regular Contest。

Let’s hear what the designer says!

    FONCEPT: So where’re you from?
Yeung: I studied design at IVE and paid much attention to music and design stuff.

    FONCEPT:When did you start designing?
Yeung: I always tried to visualize the weird thoughts in my mind. This has started since I was in high school.

    FONCEPT:Why does design attract you?
Yeung: I like expressing things and sharing messages by graphics. I can ask a question, show a emotion by that. It’s totally free. There’re no rules involved. It’s like an expert rolling out his new piece of thesis or work. That’s what you generate after research and thinking.

FONCEPT:Where do you obtain your inspiration?
Yeung: Often music, pictures simply come out of my mind. Sometimes unnoticed objects, I re-organise them and create new stuff.

    FONCEPT:Your favourite designer or artist?
Yeung: Kate Moross . Her typography is nice。

FONCEPT註:Kate from London has always been designing for magazines, CDS and events, you can pay a visit to her website for more info.

Yeung: I wanted to express that there’s a stubborn person. And I kept drawing the endless circles.

FONCEPT:How do you see people who’ve lost their personal styles?
Yeung: Firstly, I think we have little chance to absorb foreign designs in HK and it always takes time to develop your personal style, since personal characters are what designers accumulate in years. It’s inevitable that you might need to learn from mimicking other’s work.

    FONCEPT:So what’re you up to?
Yeung: I’ve just graduated and is looking for a job!

FONCEPT:What else do you want to share with other FONCEPT members?
    Yeung: Let’s work hard together!

    Thanks Yeung!

We hope we can continue having artists here to share everything from yourselves, your views on creativity or design to anything precious moments in life. You are welcome to send the text and graphics to info@foncept.com . We would publish them as soon as possible given that the contents are appropriate.
